The Antwerp Collection Centre, located in Pomp Park South, is the city’s new heritage depot, designed by Office Winhov together with HUB architects and partners. The depot building serves as a central storage and conservation space for diverse collections, consisting over 800,000 objects. These extensive collections are currently spread across multiple locations in the city of Antwerp and are not accessible to the public. With the addition of a public foyer, consultation space and visible storage area, the building makes Antwerp’s history tangible for the public.
The former industrial area is being transformed into a landscaped area where the Collection Centre forms a new spatial anchor point within the Ring Park. The design considers the Antwerp Collection Centre as a contemporary monumental repository, where heritage becomes visible and experiential. Public interaction is central: an open entrance plaza connects the building with the city and the park, while a visible storage space and a publicly accessible café lower the threshold for visitors.
Office Winhov has contributed to the architectural and urban planning vision of the project, with sustainability and longevity as central principles. With a robust brick facade, a flexible internal organisation and with an eye to possible future expansion, the design seamlessly aligns with the philosophy of context-aware and future-proof architecture.
